About This Blog

“And I am my brother’s keeper, and I shall fight his fight, and speak the word for beast and bird, till the world shall set things right.”  Edna Wheeler Wilcox

I firmly believe in that quote, and have always lived by it.

Wild animals need all the help they can get in our crowded world. The more people that know about them, the more people there are speaking on their behalf.  Here at Wild Tracks, we tend to favor the smaller, little known species – those in need of a good press agent!

As a naturalist and author, I have a huge amount of wild animal information coming at me from every direction.  This blog is intended to make it easier for the reader to learn about our wild species, from one handy website.

I was born in northern Canada too many years ago to count. Growing up in the boreal forest region with a father interested in all beasts, birds and growing things, I naturally gravitated towards nature. Along with being owned by a houseful of domestic animals, I’ve volunteered with organizations working for wolves, swift foxes and wild cats, as well as the local zoo and bird sanctuary. I’ve written books on birds, reptiles & amphibians and South American carnivores. I currently share my life with my husband, a dog, two cats, three computers, an ipod and a blackberry. Hard to say which of these is more important…

I’m also an ardent birdwatcher, and have been known to book holidays around bird watching opportunities. Even a trip to Las Vegas requires binoculars, and a very productive trip to the sewage treatment ponds – great birding! I’m fortunate to have a tree filled yard, which is also filled with bird feeders, and therefore I have birds front and back every day of the year.

Welcome!
